VOLTA OCTOBER 2022 features Mohammad Ali Maleki, Dorothy May and Janaka Malwatta. Volta will be held in-person in the Tiered Theatrette at the Brisbane Square Library.

Mohammad Ali Maleki is an Iranian poet who wrote regularly during his time on Manus Island. “I decided to put the words of my heart on paper. When I wrote on paper and saw what was bothering me, I calmed down a bit. Writing these poems meant removing grudges from my heart.”
Dorothy May is a Singer-Songwriter, Comedian and Coach. Dorothy began her practice of Music and Multi-Disciplinary Expression from a young age. She attended the Victorian College of the Arts for a Bachelor of Musical Theatre. Dorothy is currently recording Tracks for her First EP. She has a Patreon which you can subscribe to for more music-related content. Dorothy has studied under some of the best Vocalists and Teachers Australia offers. Her vocal exploration has been holistic in approach, and this is how she teaches. Dorothy has created a Comedy Course, and provides Stand-Up Comedy training to aspiring Comedians.
Janaka Malwatta was born in Sri Lanka, grew up in London, and moved to Brisbane in 2010. He has performed at Queensland Poetry Festival and been published in Cordite Poetry Review and Peril Magazine. He won the 2021 Arts Queensland Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize for blackbirds don’t mate with starlings.
