Making an Infinite Grid Poem
With Dusan Bojic
DATE: Sunday 18th September at 11am AEST
This workshop will introduce participants to the experimental possibilities inherent in using a grid to produce an infinite poem – of possibilities, permutations, and play. You get to decide the difference between meaning and non-meaning, which direction you want to travel in a text and how you wish to navigate space in a Matrix Poem.
Influenced by L-A-N-G-U-A-G-E poetry and the Fluxus Movement, Matrix Poetry uses the grid as a structural agent in the formation of hundreds of poems from something as simple as a a 64-word poem. Start anywhere. Go anywhere. The reader as writer comes into this poem ... an infinite matrix of playful becoming ... from multiple of points of entry. By multiplying the possibilities of a poetic text, the Matrix Poem encourages the audience to become a poet. Come out to play and make an open poem which never stops.
Outcome:
You will generate at least two poems in this workshop using a number of concrete poetry techniques and grid-building exercises, which you can consider finished, or continue to work on outside of the workshop.
The main workshop poem will be a Matrix Poem which can also be played as a game of chess.
You will leave the program with a 'tool box' of various exercises, constraints and generative processes for producing Matrix Poems.
You will gain an understanding of how to generate Matrix Poems in a diverse array of formats .
